I've been hunting for an acceptable Android device with an FM Tuner. There were just a few old tablets with FM tuners. The best I could come up with a while back is a large phone, since FM tuners in Android phones were all the rage ~2 years ago.

After many hours I found a new one! lenovo IdeaTab A2107 for $150 running 4.0+. Sure it's not a Nexus 7, but a N7 does not have an FM tuner. I bought one last night and will report back after I get it.

This could be the tablet of choice for in-dash.

What questions do you have? I agree that manufacturers rarely tell you what you want to know. Many phones that had FM didn't even put it in the specs and some didn't provide an app. Still unanswered concerns that I have... what FM chip? and is the chip supported in 3rd party apps?

After I receive it and test it a bit and see that there is promise, I'll create another thread.

As you say, Lenovo doesn't state anywhere anything about FM-receiver, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have it. Really want to hear your opinion about the tablet.
One concern I have is about updates....

The only other tablet I found matching my needs is the ZTE Tab2, but a lot of haze around that one too...

    Hi Gus,

Here is a quote from their shop/product page:
"Built in FM radio that works offline"

Well unfortunately, there appears to be at least 2 models of the Lenovo A2107.

    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-...ty/td-p/937091

What you want is a A2107-H. It seems unavailable in the US. This model has a 3G Modem built-in too -- I'm sure the FM tuner is integrated into that chip. I was suckered, you'd think a model number would be unique and there wouldn't be separate models for different regions with the same model number.

In my opinion, Lenovo is barely above the cheap Chinese stuff you find in local ads during Xmas. They are trying to do everything and end up not supporting what they are doing. The product launch started in September is still not complete. So I started looking at Pandawill and their models from Chinese factories. Found one, but it was out of stock. They do have many 6" phones with FM tuners.

Doesn't an app like iHeart and Tunes Radio get local channels also? My jump to Android was to X-out as much equipment as possible.

You are missing the whole point...

It is for instance when going abroad and no dataplan, no coverage for data and so on. In Stockholm I can of course use 4G, but I usually go to my parents quite often, 500 km North, the phone then goes from 4G, 3G, Edge and all the other bands up and down all the time, then streamed radio does not work.

So, lets keep Internet radio and FM reciever apart.
