    Post Mounting

    Hey all,
Im really excited cause I just received my 5" Parts Express LCD monitor to almost complete my system (im just waiting on my already ordered inverter and AUX IN adapter). So since I wanted everything to be set up when I got the rest of the parts, I decided on getting ready to mount the screen. Here is where I need your help:

See, my problem is that I drive a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3, and well, Ford didnt exactly make the nicest dash for setting things on. First, its all curved except for one spot and of course that spot is taken by the passenger airbag so thats a no go. Down to two options in my mind.

First, the stock head unit is about 2 DIN, however I dont think its quite that size. Anyways, with my 1 DIN head unit now I have enough space with a little gap height wise and a larger gap width wise to fit the backside of the monitor in there. The advantages to this in my mind are its in the best position I think and it would just look pretty cool. The disadvantages to this are that it is more susceptable to thieves because it is in the open, it would stick out a bit with the speakers, and most importantly it would effectively do away with my two center vents when i need heat otherwise i would be blowing the hot air straight to the back of it and it would go screwy.

Second, I could roof mount it. However, Im not sure how to do this cause Im not going to rip any holes in my headliner (or anywhere else for that matter). This wouldnt be the most optimal viewing place, but it would be harder for theives to find and would keep my heat..

Any ideas on how to roof mount it or where else to mount it or anything that might help!?!?!?!?

    suggestions:

1.) sit it on top of the cup holder (granted it will be pretty far down but, you can't look at it while driving anyway)

2.) stick it to the ceiling (i know you don't want to but, you are running out of options b/c you won't cut any holes)

3.) get rid of that LCD (smartest move, i am sure you knew your dash was curved before you bought an LCD with a flat base(lol j/k)) and replace it with one that has a flexible pedistal mount that way you can adjust it to sit properly.

4.) buy a flexible mount, and attach it to the flat base, and mount the pedistol on the dash. If you are really worried about security you can make it so the screen is detachable from the flexible mount and just take off the screen when you park

How exactly would I stick it to the roof?

1.) Industrial strength Velcro or that snap together plastic stuff (easiest way) Just don't count on taking it one and off the ceiling very often.

2.) create a detachable plate (preferably one where you slide of the LCD, not pull it down), and connect one end to the base of the LCD and the other to the ceiling, then just slide the 2 together, and if you want to take it off you can easily slide it out (if you need me to draw a picture i will later, i have to leave now)

I have a similar problem but let me tell you my solution:

Just like Kain101 suggested first, I'm adding a small flexible arm mount with the base in my cup holder. The cup holder is only 1" deep and it takes a pretty small cup for the 'holder' to work good anyhow so no big loss there. My mount will allow for the LCD to bend sideways then back so that I can stick it between my center console end and my dash (out of sight of thieves).

Look at www.ram-mount.com for mount examples.
Their products also allow easy and fast removal of the LCD.

    - yes an industrial strength velcro should hold up under normal driving conditions. as long as you are not always taking the screen off of it.
    - the plastic thing i am talking about looks like the plastic half of a velcro strip, but, instead of locking with a peice of cloth, it locks to another piece of plastic, that should hold it very well.
