Hi
I've been using an Infill G4 for the past two years. Slow, but a neat solution. Unfortunately, its bust, and is going to cost £200 for a new lower board to fix (has the common 'powering on' forever issue).
I'm not going to spend £200 on what is a very out of date bit of
hardware that struggles to run CF3.x at the best of times.
So... what to replace it with. I have three idea's, and not a huge amount of time to implement any of them. One thing that's fixed is that it needs to be double-din.
1) Just buy an off the shelf Chinese import like the XTRONS TD695DG (
http://www.xtrons.co.uk/GPS-car-dvd/...r-TD695GD.html ). Has anyone had any experience of these units, are they like other cheap chinese units - ideal on paper but extremely poor in the flesh? (Cost: £390 on ebay)
2) Take my old 7"
Samsung galaxy tab, and build that into the double-din hole on my vehicle. There seems to be some Android CarPC front ends appearing these days. (Cost: About £200 cause I would otherwise flog the tab!)
3) Go the whole hog, buy a base unit with a bit more grunt than the VIA in the infill, likely a dual-core atom, and get a new double-din screen. I already have a CF licence. (Cost: ~£250 for the base unit & £300 for the screen).
I'm seriously tempted by (1) if it works... but its rather a gamble. As I mentioned I don't have alot of time to tinker these days, and the other options would require time...
Hopefully someone will pay me something for my Infill G4 for its scrap value!
Nigel
