#1 wouldn't work with CF. In addition, you get what you pay for with those units.

#2 would also not use CentraFuse. The Android interface can be made better for the car, but there'sreally no tight integration at this point and time.

#3 is your best bet, ut also the more expensive and complex route.

Aye, I know the first two are independent of CF, was hoping someone on here had some experience of the XTRONS units, and could just tell me they were sh1te, and thus remove one choice from my list!

I've had some pretty bad experiences with CF - there's some stuff that simply does not work or does not work 100% of the time. When driving it needs to be 100% reliable or it becomes frustrating or worse, dangerous. The navigation component Destinator in CF is simply atrocious, while Garmins GMPC software is no longer maintained, and does not enjoy a 100% reliable plugin to integrate it into CF. Maybe ride-runner or MeeGo IVI is the way forward.

By all accounts, there are only a few (major!) things wrong with this for someone wanting a *simple* 'CarPC' setup:

- It does not let you browse media by album art, only by folder/filename!
- It does not resume your playlist from where it stopped when its powercycled
- The iPod connector only returns track/album info, not album art

1: as was already said, you get what you pay for. if you expect that unit to compete with the ease and feel of a carpc/g4 then i believe you will be dissapointed. if you expect it to be a cheap chinese unit that has a working radio, happens to play dvd's, and also happens to have navigtion, then it should be fine.

2: there has recently been a couple other installs similar to this-- fab work can be as complex as rebuilding dash panels, or just adding a block of wood and a RAM mount(like this)...

3: i am a little biased, but i prefer this method-- the different components make trouble shooting easier, and allow for different mounting that a all-in-one might not offer.

Just opened my Infill G4 box as shipped to me 5 years ago from CarTFT only to realize they shipped me a refurb unit, and one with no CABLES!!! I would like to purchase anyone's unit that has gone dead - or at least just the cables that plug into the back (the ones for RCA and USB) -LET ME KNOW

3) Go the whole hog, buy a base unit with a bit more grunt than the VIA in the infill, likely a dual-core atom, and get a new double-din screen. I already have a CF licence. (Cost: ~£250 for the base unit & £300 for the screen).

I'm seriously tempted by (1) if it works... but its rather a gamble. As I mentioned I don't have alot of time to tinker these days, and the other options would require time...

Hopefully someone will pay me something for my Infill G4 for its scrap value!

€Xtrons units... Preamps are weak... less than 2v a lot less, you would need either a LOC with an amp or a line driver (i opted for a LOC since i only needed it for my subs)

i owned a TD712 last year, and just bought a new one, infact new one seams to be less powerful... ? - mind i did amp my front speakers with the last one, so might be biased

the units themselves are decent... its just depending how much you like the power... for a standard radio (no subs, amps etc) then go for it,,, its a good deal... for a incar ent enthusiast... dont waste your money :P

the newer td714 uses windows CE6... but im unsure as to weather you can access the media sd card via windowsce... (you couldnt on the posts mentioned with win ce 4.x older models)

but may be an option to save money, if somebody can figure out how to make the USB work (front and rear) in windows CE for a usb dongle - the gps reciever works... as described in link... but for the price diff, worth the hassle??? - also,..

BlackSilverTech on ebay, he sells the units a lot cheaper than xtrons.com... but you loose 12moths warranty (only 1yr not 2 as you do from the xtrons)
