Well mine work fine....
But You are not the only one having problem with this drive!
XP, M9000,SR-8185...
Could you try to hook your SR-8185 to another computer?
hey guys I am finally putting my setup together but I ran into a problem:
I just bought a EPI M10000, I have win XP and I have the slim SR-8185 DVD drive. I used the drive for loading win XP (from scratch)and it went well, right after that I tried using the drive to load the EPI drivers but it gave me the following error:
"E:\ is not accessible
the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"
I then tried with a regular DVD movie and I got the same error. With a music CD recognizes the tracks but I got a message asking me to change to Analog and when playing just skips from track to track. I also tried with a video game and I got a message saying that the format of the disk is unknown.
I tried the DVD rom in a different computer (HP vectra) with win XP also and it works fine. I also connected a regular CD-rom to the EPI and also works fine.
The EPI recognizes the drive as a "Matsu****a DVD SR-8185 drive" which is correct.
I am really running out of ideas. I looked for a driver in the Panasonic website but it says that for win XP I do not need drivers. (http://www.mke.panasonic.co.jp/en/down/index.html)
Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks!!

I think he did that already, at least, thats how i read it.I tried the DVD rom in a different computer (HP vectra) with win XP also and it works fine.

what power supply are you using? Sounds like not enough power going to the drive (hence drive not found) Also how did you set up your ide connections? Is it DVD-HDD-board, HDD-DVD-board, or just DVD-board HDD-board. You might have a master/slave problem. Try setting the DVD to master and Hdd to slave (well not sure if you can set the DVD, but you can set the HDD) Try that. I'm betting its a power problem, cause it works in the other pc that has a larger PSU.
I might be having a sililar or related problem. I have a Panasonic SR-8173 on a M1000 board in the cubid case. I can play audio CD's fine and I can even play the DVD's but I get no audio on the DVD's. Audio on regular CD's is fine. In my other computer with XP I can hear the audio fine on music and DVD's.
Any help or suggestions?
thanks for the suggestions, I will try with a diffrent power supply when I get home. But the question remains: Why I did not have problems installing XP with the same drive?
I will also try changing the slave/master settings. Right now I have it as HDD-board DVD-board
I will keep you posted guys!!
My guess would be that XP is pulling more power to use the max ram, power for sound, video chip, processor, etc... Before you installed XP you weren't running max power for all the devices (ie sound, max resolution, processing power, etc..) So when windows starts up, you might not have enought power left to power the DVD drive. Just taking a stab at a solution, since I not quite sure about you whole setup.
I connected a LITE-ON dvd rom an it works fine. I have 1U 200W power supply and the other thing that I am running is an IBM 6G laptop hardrive. I also have 256 of RAM.
I tried switching places between the HD and the DVD in the IDE connections and got different results:
the discs are being read but they are showing just a couple of files or empty folders. I change the DVD region to the default for the US but did not make any difference.
I really hope that I can figure something out, thanks for the help guys!!
How many partitions do you have?
Seems odd that it is looking for the CD on "E:". Did you add a partition after installing XP?
When in doubt, uninstall the offending item, shut down, start up and let XP reinstall.
Unless you have a master/slave or ugly cable problem, it should work just fine...mine does...on a 70w PS. with add on video card and laptop HD.
The audio thing could be an entirely different issue. Like settings, audio decoder etc.
So you stick in a disk, and autoplay doesn't load the disk, or you hit the shortcut icons and it looks in the wrong place?
And if you use windows explorer and click on whatever drive you think the cd/dvd is, it gives an error like drive not ready? Yet you have a disk ready to go?
Check the cables carefully.
(oops got a double post there![]()
