wow, not sure how this got locked? I unlocked it in case I accidentally locked it... if someone else locked it then lmk I guess???
I considered doing that in my new car, taking the tablet apart, but part of the nice thing about building a system around one of these tablets is the benefit of being able to easily eject it. I agree that some sort of hardware is needed to support the tablet install & in this case combining it with a headunit seems to be a good idea... I choose to do this so I can easily retain steering wheel controls, am/fm & cd changer etc, & also as an easy way to interface my factory optical input amps & also on the odd occasion I happen to not have the tablet I still have a somewhat functioning system. I'm lucky though that in my system I was able to just move my headunit back enough to mount the tablet in front of it & leave exposed the buttons I'd need to switch source and also that in this car the radio info is repeated in the instrument cluster, so even when the tablet is docked I can still see & control am/fm & cd changer function throught steering wheel controls & cluster display. I'll also make this on in a way that when the tablet is removed the radio itself still looks good & is still useable
what would be truly awesome would be some sort of supporting hardware that would get installed in the car & then connect to and be controlled by the tablet, kind of like a server for the tablet by either bluetooth or even wifi... I plan to add to this system with a media server to serve up media &/or I'm also considering a simpler pc install that can be controlled through remote desktop with the tablet. here's a peek as it's under development...

Speaking of capacitive touchscreens.. http://www.microtipsusa.com/pressrel...uct.asp#hires7
Another idea - I like the idea of a double din 'box' containing all of the hardware to manage a tablet. The touchpad has a nice inductive charging base - the touchstone. A tablet with an inductive charging solution where you simply 'rest' the tablet in a space that acts as the interface and gets charged at the same time would be awesome. Think of it like a removable face plate for a stereo... except in this case it is a tablet. Take it with you to work, play, then pop it into the car 'dock' and charge it while using the tablet as your touchscreen interface. I do not think there are any solutions that would allow this now - unless you use a touchpad and touchstone in the build.
Lots of possibilities for the (near?) future...
The tablet would need to like magnetically sit in its "dock" and you would still need to secure it in the car in case you get into an accident. But inductive charging + a2dp BT would be a kick *** combo for a tablet install.
No wires.
I've been searching around the net for others with the same idea. I did however see this on the net wanted to see if anyone might have purchased it and have a review or just thoughts of the members of the forum. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...t_16895wt_1344.
