Help with 12V to 5V setup, having powering issues.

When power is applied to the 12V to 5V step down converter, it powers on all the KVMP devices. Apperently the converter has to be on before the KVMP is powered on or the USB devices do not connect correctly.

So what I want to know, is there a way to connect something that will wait 3 seconds, then activate the KVMP switches? Something that is simple and easy?

how are the kvmp switches activated? is it just pressing a physical button?

No, they power up when you plug them in. Meaning they are always on. I am guessing that when the 12V to 5V converter comes on, its either not stepping down the current fast enough, or it isnt at 5V, because when it activates the KVMP units makes two beeps, but the first beep sounds rundown.

ok, then you will need to delay the output of the 5v module to overcome it.

i am thinking a module like one of these:
    http://www.davidnavone.com/cart.asp?14&pid=146
http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?s...id=18756548(or just search for 528t pulse timer-- there are tons of them)

basically the idea is to setup a delay device like that to trip a relay that controls the output-- say 2-5 seconds after the 5v converter starts up, so it has time for the voltage to stabilize.

that should take care of the issue..

How would this work though? With a relay? So it would be Converter, then timer, then a relay that is tripped by the timer to allow 5v connection?

You think a PAC-TR4 will do it? I actually have on sitting around. They come with a two second delay. Im going to have to go home and test it with that. i do not know if 2 seconds is long enough.

Here is an example of the setup. Is this correct? Originally I bought the PAC to be used with AMPcontrol, but now I use a USB relay to trigger the amps. The PAC should provide 2 seconds delay, and maybe another extra second to trip the relay?

^ yes, that should work, and that should be the correct connection method.

Thanks soundman98. Crossing fingers that this will have enough delay!

OK, installed the PAC and looks like its a no go. I guess the unit works with pulses, which an amp is willing to accept, but a relay is a different story. The relay sits there and clicks like no tomorrow and no power from the 5V aspect is powered on. Is there something I can put in between the PAC and the relay? Like maybe a small capacitor?

OMG, why do the CAR PC Gods throw all these d@mn curve balls at me! I cant help it that I made my install so nightmarish, but please don't make the easy things hard!
