Double Din Lilliput not Double Din

    Hey all,

I am new to this forum. I need some help to save my CarPC project. I am putting a CarPC in an 08 Cayman. I bought a 7" Lilliput touchscreen to be mounted in place of my OEM headunit. All was going well until I got the double din fascia delivered today.

The fascia I am using is provided by a company called EuroMotorSpeed. Lots of people on the Porsche forums have used this fascia with standard aftermarket double din headunits (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc) so I am fairly sure it is the right size. But the Lilliput double din doesn't fit in the fascia. It is too wide by about 2mm and too tall by about 5mm.

Has anyone run into this trouble with the Lilliput double din kit, and does anybody know of an alternative manufacturer of a touchscreen that can be mounted in a double din slot?

The problem isnt with the Lilliput, its the fact that "double din" isnt an exact specification. So the double din lilli enclosure is going to fit differently in different vehicles.

I had heard that "double din" was not a standard size. But that just doesn't make sense to me. There are so many companies that make aftermarket HU's and even more companies that make fascias and mounts for HU's. How can they produce a successful product if they are all different sizes?

I am fairly sure that whilst there is maybe no published standard size for double din, there must be a common size. I would suspect that all the major HU manufacturers produce HUs that all have the same front dimensions.

I am so frustrated! This was the last piece of the puzzle. Was all set to install my carputer, and upgrade my OEM Amp and this kills the whole plan. I guess I will have to see if I can find someone to custom make a mount for the screen and hope the price doesn't get out of hand.

    Double Din LCD

Lilliput is a monitor manufacturer, their housing does not conform to the double din standard.
The double din fascia opening is made to take a double din head unit, 4 inches high ( twice the std din 2 inches high) by 7 inches wide, depth varies by manufacturer.
You have to remove the LCD screen from the lilliput and install it in a Double Din ABS Frame (http://store.mp3car.com/New_Black_Do.../enc-039-b.htm) or a Double Din all in one housing, (http://store.mp3car.com/New_Black_Do...p/enc-041b.htm).
There are different frames and housing to fit LCD screens from different lilliput models, make sure you order the one correct for your lilliput model.
Also you can order black or silver in color. Download and read the manual for the frame or housing to understand how you transfer the lCD screen.
The other option is to McGiver the lilliput housing by cutting and bonding it to the Fascia, (see the fabrication section of the forums).

The screen I have is in the ABS Frame. However the other link showed some interesting clues. If you look at the pics of the housing from the rear you can clearly see the frame for the lilliput is larger than the box housing. Also if you look at the measurements the box is 100mm tall and the frame is 107mm. There is also a comment that "some double din dash kits may require 3-4mm of trimming to fit the LCD frame". I just wish this information was available on the frame page.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to check out the fabrication section and see if I think this is something I can handle.
