    Cache -- not history.

If you use IE, you can probably locate the folder on your PC that stores temporary internet files, and there will be a bunch of JPGs in there.

There's probably a way to do this for other browsers like Firefox and Chrome. Not sure.

hey guys, the creator of that cable and the guy who reverse engineered the diagram both requested that the posts be removed. I know Mitch spent a lot of time writing his software, documenting the hardware and integrating it with various software packages. If you have a special project where you have to have a diagram and can't use one of his cables message him. He has said he is willing to work with hobbyists, he just doesn't want his intelectual property just floating around out there for any factory to duplicate at will. If you happen to have the image in your cache, great. Use it. but please respect mitch's work and keep it to your personal use and out of the public. Let mitch decide what mitch wants to do with his work. Mitch, maybe you can elaborate on your position?

update I probably got a little delete happy, so I undeleted 2-3 posts which show the delete requests and a few other comments just to provide context for my moderation decision.

update 2 Also - Sorry for not writing this explanation when I deleted the posts before. I was on the train with a crappy internet connection.

This stuff however, is NOT copyrighted by anyone who would want it removed: http://www2.dasilvas.info/hd-radio and contains a circuit that works.

I don't think mitch has any IP at risk here unless I'm misunderstanding something.

its not copyrighted, not sure if you even can, it just in fairness...
long long ago, I'd shared the schematic with someone, next thing i know they are selling it...
then wrote me threating emails to sue me, if i tried to stop him
oddly enough i think he just went away...
feel free to use the leon design, while similar, isn't the same... anyway...
in the past if someone contacted me, and REALLY needed the old RS232 version, i have always given them the schematic
i will continue to do so...

not to mention, its not that hard to figure it all out, it was time consuming to do the software side...which everyone is benefitting from
if you own a cable and want to reverse engineer it, to make another one for you...thats fine...
but i didnt expect it to be 100% public
not to mention, anyone who wants to build one themselves, should be able to figure it out, its not that tricky
RX to TX, TX to RX, and then power on signal when low, which we use DTR inverted(hense the transistor)

I needed an RS232 interface for my carputer build, but could only find USB type interfaces available. I found a used HD Radio with RS323 cable and an RS232 to USB adapter on ebay, and wanted to shrink the cable down for my own use. So I tossed the USB cable, and planned on buzzing pins so I could make a motherboard com1 header to bare wire cable to solder directly on the directed radio board.

I opened the clamshell to reveal another nightmare in wait.. a circuit board between the D Connector and the mini-8 DIN cable. Oh joy, so no markings anywhere, I searched the internet and found a site with the schematic for a serial cable interface circuit, but it was different. Well, I went ahead and buzzed the board I had, identified pinouts, and drew up a makeshift schematic in case I damaged the circuit, then I took a dremel and cut the board off the D Connector. I soldered a COM header cable to one end, shrink tubed the board, then soldered the other end to the radio board. I did all this to fit the radio board inside a double din pc case, and mounted it to the case lid:

This cable was old, I mean very old, stripped insulation like it was pulled through a car's firewall drilled with a step bit, and the USB to RS232 adapter part was taped to the D Connector with winds and winds of electrical tape to hold it together. If it did not work, I would have tossed the whole thing without a second glance, but when done, it worked right off, without incident, after setting the HD Radio to Com1, 115,200 baud in the Driveline settings page.

I did not reverse engineer this cable to sell, nor would I like to see any third party use Mitch's design to profit, so I won't share that drawing with anyone, and would ask that Mitch be contacted instead of me for that part. I will however offer up the mini-8 Din pinout for those who want to solder a cable directly to the Directed board like I did, as that has to be a standard because my old Kensington Expert Mouse trackball has the same wiring.

Rray, you did nothing wrong, IMO, by sharing what you did earlier. This isn't the first time I've seen Mitch get a bit hot because someone figured out how he did something. That's really what this whole community was built upon and should continue to be about anyway, hacking and sharing. Reverse engineering, even to sell a product, is not illegal unless protected by a patent or some EULA prohibits it.

Reminds me of the initial heat between Qube and Fusion Brain. Qube maker picked the fusion brain maker's brain for help only to release a competing product. Sucks but it happens, not sure why Mitch should get any different treatment than what 2k1toaster did.

Mitch, you know deep down inside I love you... I mean really deep down there, but I do love to rustle your feathers more.
