Whats the best USB FM radio for CF3.5

    Hey All,

I am putting the final touches to my Van PC install, I've got some issues with the FM tuner (In the UK).

I've already got a HQCT v1 - which has a slight issue with the MB im using - I only have one audio and one usb header - If I have it connected via the USB header, and the audio runs through the audio header on the MB to the HQCT audio link - I've made my own lead up - but it means that the RCA out on the VoomPC case and the USB on the front is disconnected.

I had a look on the Centrafuse site and it recommends :

    Silabs USB Radio
    ADS Technologies InstantFM USB Radio
    RadioXtreme USB
    D-Link DSB-R100
HQCT (High Quality Car Tuner) - Not recommended
Most radio devices supported by Radiator, 3rd Party Application

I managed to find a D-Link DSB-R100 on eBay - however does this work in the UK? also, I know they stopped making this in 2001 so is it actually any good?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey,

Thanks Mitch - Just out of interest would you be messing with FM only or a DAB unit?

I can pick up a DAB for about 70GBP and then 25GBP for an antenna - I'm struggling to find a supplier of Silabs (I think the ADS Tuner is almost identical??) - Just cannot find them - I've been googling since your reply and nothing... Not even a distributor link on the sites lol - Although Amazon used to stock them but they are out of stock at the moment... I'm guessing they have been replaced by DAB systems now?

How does the HQCT v1 work other than the issue with having an input for it ? I'm thinking of getting one.

How is the AM and FM reception compared to a factory radio ?

As far as I know, the closest you can get to factory radio reception and quality is to buy Directed or Visteon radio and connect it to Line-in with Mitch USB Cable for control.

    the HQCT blows

DAB? if its one of the DAB usb sticks, pass... its BDA Drivers, ie not really just a dab radio, but more of a multimedia device for use in like windows media center
no direct control of DAB, while we do have an sdk of the realtek IC, if its a realtek too.. its a Directshow type sdk...and since im in UAS and no dab
no point me try to work on it as of now...

now the directed/visteon will work for you, its made for USA, but its FM and AM will work...
its the only tuner of the bunch actually made for a car

    the ads is a silabs...

you could get the cartft radio... it has a real antenna connector [http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/1139]
    its OK...

I know about the Visteon unit, but they are hard to find and somewhat expensive.

I found info on the Directed radio here.
    http://www.mo-co-so.com/Directed-DMH...cs-dir-hdr.htm

Is the communication protocol for this radio open such that I could write my own driver for it ? (In Linux)

    Thanks

Search for "Directed HD" on Ebay - they go for about $40 with free shipping. They are equivalent to Visteon, as far as I know.
