    Wireless LCD Display

this does not fall under an MP3Car discussion, however it is a similar concept and you people here seem to know a lot, and this website is what inspired my idea.

i have my computer in my basement, where the temperature in the summer is nice and cold, and it is warm in the winter. but whenever i burn a cd, i wish i could know how much % is done, without going down to it. my plan is to create a casing to mount a battery or some sort, an LCD and a reciever so I can have a wireless LCD display to put whereever I want in the house that will display the percentage of the CD buring. is this possible? my main cocern is, can i create a wireless setup?

sure. if ur pc has TV out (if not just get an vga to video adapter) get a wireless TV antenna. The antenna hooks to the TV (or PC in your case) and the receiver on another TV to see whats on the first TV. If you want it portable, get a small handheld TV and plug the receiver into that.
This is the simplest and cheapest way of doing it.

Although I wouldn't do anything you do want anyone else seeing, as your neighbor (or anyone who went out and bought the antenna) could probably receive the monitor signal too..(or at least it would seem that way to me)

ok, the TV-out idea is a good one, and the fact that my neighbor could recieve it would some-what bother me, but most of all:
i was not thinking like a 7 inch LCD job. what i ment was something like a 2-line character display setup, just to show something like

    [ CD-BURN PROGRESS - 65% ]
    [ BUFFER - 99% ]

so i dont think a TV-out could send just text, but rather it would try to send the entire picture i see on my monitor.

I am not trying to sound like a smart aleck...but doesn't it only take 2 minutes or so to burn a CD?

I suppose a DVD would take quite a while.

Or some kind of CDROM authoring machine that pumps out many copys...

Sorry, never mind me, go about your business...

Might consider this after you compare costs:

Think of it like cordless phone, whereas a tablet PC is like a cell phone.

I just know how long it takes to burn a DVD or CDR on my machine and set the countdown timer on watch accordingly. Is all the time and $ really worth the "geek factor" that so many of us pursue? This project just seems a little weird that way.

Dude, GezusK, $1049 to display burning status? Um...I believe the word is "overkill"

This might be obvious, but I'm gonna say it any way...aldend, if you do get something wireless working, remember to get RF (radio frequency) and not infrared...as infrared has to be within line of sight to work.

    just an obvious observation.

$1049??? although this item [wireless-monitor] does facinate me, and might be something worth purchasing when i have a job and a lot more money [im 16, and lazy ,so no job and no money]
for feature reference, i thought on spending something like $50 - $100 on this job. I can do most labor, and I figure I'll shop computer shows for some cheapo-LCD display, or rip is out of some old WYSE case.
O, and yes, I had remembered to make sure it'd be RF and no infrared.

Also, my burner is a unstable, older 12x. It was one of the earlier Sony's from probably about 4 years ago. Plus when using stuff like CloneCd, where it must make an image first, sometime i can have to wait up to an hour until the image is even done. yes, I have thought about upgrading, but im a gadget person, and i'd like the learn about electronics. plus this LCD thing might be able to show me when my comp is done rebooting too.
