    Xenarc cigarette lighter adapter

XenarcDirect is advertising a cigarette lighter adapter for their monitors. Has anyone purchased on of these?

If so, is anything special? I am wondering if I can use normal DC power to supply my xenarc, or if I need to insulate it against spikes. If the latter, does this goodie do it? I can always hack off the cigarette lighter adapter and solder it in if it does.

    Specs:
    Product ID: CLA-12V Category: Accessories
Cigarrete Lighter Adaptor - 12V DC
Description: 12V DC Cigarrete Lighter Car Adaptor for Xenarc monitors
    Price: $25.00

depending on the voltage the screen can take, you could just hook it up to your battery. but the battery can get as high as 15v, so if the screen can't handle that, you will need a regulator. The absolute easiest way to do it would be to power it off your computer's 12v line.. Just hook it do the yellow wire on a molex

The computer is under the passenger seat, and the xexarc is in the dash. I would rather not have to run power through the PC enclosure, under the carpet, up to the the dash for this simple application.

Because there are plenty of 12v lines in the dash already I am trying to determine the easiest way to hook up the monitor. If the xenarc cigarette lighter adapter does not include a regulator, then the display has one built in. If it does include a regulator then I need to either build my own regulator, or buy xenarc's (which includes the correct plug to power the monitor) and simply cut off the cigarette adapter and splice it into an existing 12v power source in my dash. The alternative is to build my own in which case I need to go to radio shack to find the correct power plug (I don't want to ruin my desktop power cable), buy the parts to build a regulator, and wire the whole thing up. Frankly, it seems easier to spend $25 for the Xenarc cable and splice it in. If it doesn't have a regulator then the second easiest thing to do is to buy the plug/wire locally and just splice it in. These are the two things I am trying to decide between.
