    Laptop IDE Extensions

Anyone have any idea where to find something like this? I want to relocate the DVD player in my laptop so that I can mount it in my custom console .. thanks!

it would probably be easier to find some adapters so that you could use a regular IDE cable intead of the laptop connections
    System: AMD Duron 1200+ , 512 MB ram , usb sb mp3+ , Tview 7" touchscreen , M1-ATX PSU , Slot Load iMac DVD-Rom , 40 GB laptop HDD, netgear USB 802.11g

Progress: Installation: 90% Dash fabrication: 80%

    Parts Needed: USB GPS

Regular IDE cables don't have the power line contained in them .. I was wondering if I got 2 of those 44pin to 40pin adapters . .and hooked the power lines together on them if that would work.. then all I would have to do is put a regular IDE cable in between them...

Get several IDE cables and connect them with dual inline snappable headers (20-pin)

Try digikey.com and search for part number WM6820-ND

Does your laptop have USB2 or firewire??? If so then you could use a portable drive from Addonics. They also have one for CardBus / PCMCIA.

Don't know if it'll do the trick, but Belkin makes round IDE extension cables now....think around 2'-3'. Seen'em in CompUSA, but they're not cheap...$20-$30.
