    Slot load CD/DVD player?

Does any one make a slot loading 5 1/2" CD/DVD player???

I think that a dash mounted slot loading CD player would look more professional than a standard draw unit.

Pioneer makes a 16x slot-load DVD drive... around $60 online.

I agree that the slim would look better, but that choice has to be weighed against the cost of a slim drive as well as that down the road if he already has a 5.25 standard bay setup he can swap drives as DVDRW drives get cheaper or as his drive starts to die. Basically being modular and flexible is a super nice feature. If something needs to change down the road it is a 20 minute operation instead of a weekend project. Also the Pioneer slot load has a black version that looks pretty slick. I have a couple beige ones and they are great.

Even better would be a slot load 48x cd-r drive. Anyone know if it's possible to swap out the electronics and leave the motor etc.. that moves the disc intact?

The problem I see there is -
    controling the loading mechanisim.

Something inside the drive senses a cd, turns on the motor to suck it in and eject it -yes, a simple task, but its probably all built onto the same board that does everything else. seperating that functionality out to swap the electronics would be verry dificult.

Having said all that - I never looked inside a slot loading drive... i suppose there is a one in a million chance that its on a sperate pc board, if so, I could easily swap the rest of the parts around..... hummm Ill find an old slot load, and tear into it.
