    USB connected PCMCIA Slot?

So I've got a PCMCIA Wifi card for my Dell Axim and a cf/pcmcia adapter for it to work in the Axim, and I was wondering if there are any usb to pcmcia adapters out there that I could hook up to my car pc to use the same cards. All I've found so far are PCI to PCMCIA and ISA to PCMCIA (Elan Adapters).

Yeah, they make them, but your better off just purchasing a USB WIFI card.

Here is a link to a USB -> PCMCIA

The USB wifi cards are just a pcmcia card inside a usb/pcmcia adapter inside a little box. I've got an orinoco gold one, works great. It was like $42 from cdw.

Edit: CDW has it for 115 now and its on backorder.

Edit2: And where the hell have you been hiding gizmomkr? no posts for what? 9 months? and then you come back and you're pulling part numbers for obscure apple parts off the top of your head :P

Lexar makes a USB PCMCIA adapter mainly used for reading flash memory, so I don't know if it is a true PCMCIA slot emulation. I am currently looking for an Orinoco Gold USB for a good price (around $50) so that I can still wardrive in the car. But if you are planning on using the wireless for more standard uses I would have to agree with the first solution of just getting a standard USB wifi client. Should be only $30 or so if you can wait for a deal to come along or a little more if you need something now.

I once tore into a Siemens Wireless access point, and found a no name pcmcia card inside with a fun little external antenna connector.
The card was blank except for an FCCID # I looked it up in the online database, and quickly found the manufacturer and a driver for it (zcom)

Dave - I dont doubt your findings, but I tore into my SMC 2662w usb wifi adapter today - no such luck

Im wondering if this was a slightly dated approach to usb wifi.

Linksys makes one big enough, never looked inside.... the US robotics one looks about the right shape - anyone else find pcmcia cards inside there stuff ?

MP3DUB - About 2 years. After my system was built and all the bugs were worked out, I started to vist less frequentlty. I changed jobs, and keep very busy most of time. Sumer is slow, and I started to crave a VGA display. After I started reading up on things, I decided to gut the entire car, and redesign the whole system. So Im back.... As for obscure part numbers - I have always been a hardware nut.

Im just glad to see so much activity on the board, such an interest from the general public in mobile computing, and a bunch of the old gang still hanging around

Orinoco, avaya, and a few more with the orinoco gold card, basically any USB client called gold something, will be a pcmcia card in an adapter. Mine is the avaya one, i don't remember how I found it on CDW, I think it was sorta hidden.
