Doing research on in Car PCs and figured I'd get some help from the MP3Car board.
What would you want your Car PC to have?
Wi-Fi, BT, DVD, CD, MicroUSB, 5.1 Sound, Tilt Screen?
Let me know what your perfect creation would be using anything that comes to mind (not just the list above).

There are as many "perfect creations" as there are people on this board. It's a matter of personal preference. For example, CD and DVD are totally useless to me, but are critical to others. Figure out what's important to you and then you can make it happen.
Completely understand what you mean, but would still like to hear what features everyone would want. Always good to hear other people out and gain more insight!
I considered dvd/cd but to be honest I don't think there's any need for it since all my movies and songs will be on the hard drive anyway. I'm also going to forgo the wifi card since I'm planning to try to get a 3G stick, there'll be minimal usage (usually just dropbox to update song playlist) so a wifi card is redundant.
What do you mean microUSB? A cell charger?
I was thinking of having a microUSB female port on the front of the unit for any external hardware attachment or a potential source for cell phone recharging. What other features would you want it to have? How fast of a processor?
are you looking to build a marketable unit, or are you looking to purchase one for yourself?
Would like to build a 2DIN for my own car. But I don't see why I can't make this marketable in the near future if there are not many options to go with at the moment.
Anymore hints as to features I should look into?
Why don't you look at the worklog and see what other people are doing? How are we to know what you want? Also, why would you put a microusb port in and not just a regular usb? I've never seen any microusb-microusb cords or microusb thumbdrives before. Just a regular usb so you can basically connect anything you want with only a $1-$2 usb cord.

but the absolute first thing you need to do is measure how deep your dash is. for instance, if you have a mid/late 90's GM vehicle, there is a really good chance you don't have any more then 5-6" depth, where i would say that a absolute minimum is 7-10", with 13" being 'just barely enough'. that is the determining factor in weather it's even feasible for you to pursue.
there's a reason there aren't many units out there right now. everyone wants different features, and to come in a reasonable price point, and then don;'t forget that you need to support the product-- you can't just build-n-run.. for this, i suggest you look up the now-defunct infill g4. that is a very good example of some of what you might need to deal with.Quote:
