Question [Mobile phone] Cellular Mute Capability how?

Most car radios have a Cellular Mute Capability. This way the sound will auto-mute when the mobile phone rings. I want this feature on my Carputer, but I haven't got a clue how to do this.
    I've got A Nokia 7210.

How do I create one for my Carputer?

    Use your sound Card

I have beed working on this same issue with my Cell phone. I have a Kyocera 7535 SmartPhone. What I did was connect the Data Cable to my PC's USB port, configured the phone as a modem then I purchased a APP called Communicate (Actually I have had the app for a long time). What the app does is it acts licke a personal communication center. You can configure the app to do what ever actions you want when a phone call comes in (IE recieve fax, go to answering machine or display an answer box or drop popup window.) You can set your own ringtones for incoming calls and as an added bonus it pauses any video and or mp3 player and lowers the volumes so you can recieve the call. There are a few bugs. The app can get very dificult to use with a touch screen LCD. I have had situatuions where once i took a call that I had a hell of a time closing the app windows. Also, I am running Windows XP embedded and the app is a pig when you are playing video and tring to recieve a call. It could take 3 rings before the answer call window pops up. I used to have it on a full version of XP and it worked great. Also, the caller ID function works when it wants too. But, even with all those issues it is a good solution for your problem. I am working on creating my own app to do the same taks but it is taking a bit longer to write. There are also lots more apps that can accomplish the same thing I just wanted to only spend the bear min. on this part and didnt want to end up purchasing tons of software to just test if it will work right.

    Hope this has hellped.

What about girder, and a serial wire that when the mute line from the handset goes hot on the serial port, Girder knows what to do, and lower the volume, then when it goes cold again, girder raises the volume?

Don't know if Girder has a generic serial port addon, or which pin on the serial you would need to use, but it might work.

The most that are sold over here in The Netherlands have. Normaly you connect the yellow wire of the car radio to the Nokia carkit. If you get a phonecall the carkit gives a signal to the radio and the volume mutes.

I want this feature on my Carputer. I haven't figured out yet what type of signal it gives but it would be great. The Nokia will also be the GPRS interface for the Carputer so I can connect to the internet when ever I want to. When I'm not connected it has the function of a phone.

    Yes it does

With the App that I have I am able to mute all Volumes then take the call. While the line is ringing it lowers all volumes to 15%. Once you hit answer it mutes all lines. This option sucks cause I want it to pause the mp3 player. This is something that I am building into my app. I am using ME and am building in a function in my app to interact with the ME window and pause what every is playing. It is still in development but basiclly I use my Cell Phone as a modem and make the app controll the modem/ Cell Phone.

I have the app on CD. I will find a way to get it to you .. Email wont work.. its at least 40 or 50 megs Zipped.. Also .. You will need the Data Cable for your phone (You can get it from the Phone manufacture and or a third party) along with the Modem Drivers. One point, Try to find a USB type adapter. I have messsed withe the Serial ones and only had issues. Here is where it can get expensive. You will need a good mic for the car. I went with the Andrea Autoarray microphone. This mic sells retail for 250.00 US. Ok, let me tell you why I went with this mic.. I have lots of car noise and I tried every type of mic known to man and found that none of them work well enough to use in the car. I found this mic that first is a microphone array and has noise cancellation. Now anyone in the car can talk on the call even with my sun roof and windows open and not have a problem. A small price to pay to be able to make and take calls. You may not run into the same issues. My suggestion is try a couple out until u find one that is to ur satisfaction.. One other thing.. My buddy whos is also working on my MP3car project has the same interface.. He couldnt spend 250 on a mic so he used a wireless mic that attaches to his shirt as he drives. He got it on ebay for 50 and he loves it .. This may be another option for you...

Please let me know how you want me to get the app to you.. I can also send u the app I am working on when its ready for Beta testing if you like..

Alexg, are you saying that you have the audio from your cell routed through your sound system/carputer?
