Any 12v automotive source, the board is all regulated, You can just use ignition on wire to power up the box. Really you should be able to mount it anywhere as you only need to get usb to computer, 2 wires from the box to back of obd2 port can hi and can lo ignition triggered power and ground. It would also be nice to get a central as possible for the TPMS not that it has problems just seems to smooth out the reporting from the sensors. Phidget sensors also have longer connecting wires (15ft) for the analog sensors if you use any that can be purchased from Phidgets. GPS antenna is long and should reach anywhere even under a plastic dash.. SNO
Quick question for you. In my car I have GMLAN which uses pin 2. This was the high pin for a protocol so I connected that and the low pin I connected to the "signal ground". The ground and +12 I connected to the ODBII ground and +12.
I left my truck sit for 3 days and the battery was stone dead. This was a 2 month old battery so I know it was in good condition. I checked and realized the ODBII +12 is constantly on.
Trying to figure out what source I should hook it to. I have 3 possible sources. I use an M3-ATX with my computer which has an amp turn on output. I also have ignition and RAP (Retained Accessory Power. Powered for 10 minutes when vehicle is turned off or until a door is opened.)
Ignition - also triggers the computer to go on and off. when you lose ignition the computer shuts down after like 30 seconds of making sure the ignition stays off.
RAP - Mentioned above. I am pulling this from this BCM directly.
AMP - This is the M3-ATX output and is fully controlled by that power supply.
I have switches on the Ignition and RAP leads so I can turn them off, manually on (fed from constant +12), auto on (work as intended).
I wanted to be able to turn on the computer without the truck running so I put in on/off/on switches for the RAP and Ignition. All three actually switch a standard 30a/40a automotive relay and provide power from the secondary battery.
My question is what do you suggest I use? Thinking the AMP turn on will be on whenever the computer is powered up where as the ignition won't. I currently only use the RAP for the monitor power but may use it for other things.
Almost done getting the bugs worked out of my PC and will be testing with Driveline hopefully this next week.
I feed my 12v+ from ignition source but I also have a switch to turn off completely, ignition is your best bet then it will turn on with truck since it should all be running before computer starts SNO
Ok thanks. I figured as much but wasn't sure how you had it setup.
Yes in my setup I can have the ignition switch work as it should, off or on.
I have a switch to disconnect the odbii data line but figured i needed to keep it powered up constantly otherwise for the gps etc.
