2004 Mazda 6 Map box Nexus 7 Tablet

    Hello Forums,
Well I have a 2004 mazda 6. It has a mapbox where I am thinking of putting a tablet in and integrating it with my sound system.
The tablet is a Nexus 7. I have the tablet. I was wondering few things:
    1. What apps do you recommend when using your tablet into your car integration sound system? Im thinking that navigation doesnt work because it requires 3g/4g coverage?
    2. I am thinking of fiber glassing the thing into my mapbox. Is that possible and even worth it? Or should I get a cheap alternative like some kind of mounting equipment such as these:

Thanks any advice would be great and really appreciated.

I'm looking into the tablet-thang as well, and I've heard positive feedback for Android/Nexus tablets, so you have a good choice at least.

As I'm still doing research for my tablet install, I can only answer one of your questions. In order to get around the 3G/4G issue, you would need to root your tablet so you can have Wifi-tethering. If you're unfamiliar with the concepts and benefits of rooting your device, look around on Google - you'll find plenty of information and "how-to's." If you have a phone that's capable of being jailbreaked (Apple) or rooted (Android), and you have Wifi-tethering set up on that, you can have your tablet connect to it as well. This way you'll always be online, which will create thousands of app possibilities, including Navigation.

Yes that is what I am thinking as well. I will root my phone and hopefully get 3g through that. Thanks for the help. I think I will root my phone and then take have it set up for wifi tethering. Just got to figure out how to do that now =P

The apps are not so much a problem, it is more fiber glassing the thing and installing it. Im worried if I fiberglass it if I can take it out. I am still trying to concept it but my friend was showing me pictures earlier of how he did it.

i've been using CoPilot Live for off-line navigation on my phone for a while and it's pretty good. Sygic also makes a nav app that you pre-download the maps for.

here's some inspiration for you, not your car model, but a Nexus 7 done really clean: http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-...tifully-simple
