I use 2 of the 7 port 2.0 in my car. Its really nice, I have them hardwired to the battery (fused of course) and leave them on 24/7. I love em.

Can anyone recommend any budget usb hubs that don't feedback 5v and cause issues? Do usb 3 hubs suffer this issue as well?

    Feedback?

I have gotten a few of the cheap "octopus" style hubs.. Hacking one up now to run my screens and to be remote ports that will charge devices. I am removing the power lead from the computer and hacking apart one of those plug in car chargers. I replaced the plug into the lighter socket with a couple wires and chopped off the wire that charges my devices and splicing it in with the power input for my hub. My hub has 2 USB cables into it. One for the computer that has all of the lines (removing the power line so the computer won't charge devices) and the other is a power only cable. I am cutting off the USB plug and hard wiring this to the charger.

I hacked off two of the 4 ports on my hub and spliced in a back panel USB port expansion for a PC. Those will be available from my dash. The other two ports will be for my screen touch panel. Haven't had it up and running yet but should be fine.

I really like USB3 in my car, it's very fast for transfers from thumb drives, and I don't think I can go back to USB2 now. The sucky part was soldering 10 wires to each USB socket, as they are very close together, but custom cable length is better than huge coils of wire tucked into cubby holes all over.

As far as USB3 hubs go, there are some second generation 4 port hubs that run with a 12v 2A wall warts. What is good about these is that you can power one with a 12V DC to DC converter, and the hub itself converts the 12V to the 5V required, and all ports will be able to supply 1.2A, so you can plug in goodies like a 16" USB powered monitor or other high current applications.

Problem is in the cheap hubs, I have many Ram mount's 6 port hubs in service and no problems with backfeeding or intermittent service. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. SNO

I have one of the ram tough usb2 hubs also, and it is bulletproof albeit slow.

Guess I will find out how well these budget hubs work. I bought them because they were suggested as good hubs for use for "hacking" devices which generally are wireless lan or bluetooth "hacking" devices.

Haven't heard of any issues with those but haven't tried to use them yet.
