alright, i'm gonna eventually get a pci usb card with prolly 4 usb slots. all of them say that i have seen so far say they have type A ports. i connected my zip drive with one of the cables and no prob.
but i purchased this dvd drive and it says it has a type B connection. i just bought two usb extension cables for a touchscreen kit and for the dvd drive, they are type A. will this dvd drive pose an issue with these cables and pci usb card?

USB port uses type A socket and USB device uses type B socket unless it doesnt have a socket in that case its terminated with a type A plug fly lead. If that make any sense to you.
If you buy a standard USB cable and you find that one end have type A plug and the other is type B. You will also find that this DVD drive comes with the type A-B USB lead anyway.
By the way type A is the flat rectangular shape port and type B is square.
so, the dvd drive will have the B socket, then the cable will be B-A, and it will plug into the comp wiht no prob, so the cables i bought will pose no issue?

Yup correct, type A plug with type B plug USB cable as I said they are standard USB cables, so your DVD kit should come with it.

Wrong, cause you bought two type A USB extension cables for your screen and DVD. Standard definiton of an extension cable is one is a famale and the other end is a male. Still you wont be able to connect your type A cable on your DVD unless it did came with the standard type A-B USB cable.
