Thanks for the words about my car! Yeah I read about the 4C going to US!

I will start my new project within days but with your feedback I might be changing something. I bought an Hifimediy Sabre DAC but it has no input. I agree, voice control is vital for car applications. I think I'll copy your setup even for the mic

Didn't know why Play Store reports all my devices incompatible with dragon mobile assistant (nexus 7, galaxy nexus, motorola xoom and galaxy tab 7"), I have only compatibility for Dragon remote microphone. Maybe it is not available outside US, or it has not italian voice recognition. However, if google voice recognition works, better than nothing!

    EDIT: form the Nuance website:

Q: I am residing outside the US. Will I be able to use the application?

A: Dragon Mobile Assistant is currently only available in the US on Google Play.
As we add additional languages and variants of English, we will include support for additional countries.

Did you use the nexus 7 2012 model or the 2013 model?

Is there a rom for the 2013 model?

No. Timur closed development on USBROM with the 2012 model. So this will not work with a Nexus 7 2013 (no matter how many hours you put in...ugh).

Your set up is awesome! And I want to do the same thing, but Iím a rookie, so youíll have to forgive my very basic questions.

1/ To what do I connect the Carnetix CNX-P5V?

2/ Where does the computer heat sink sit? On top of the N7 processor?

3/ For switching the power supply on and off with the car, will this work as the 12V relay before the Carnetix CNX-P5V?

4/ If Iím understanding you correctly, to power everything, you have to connect the Male USB end of the OTG Y-cable to a cigarette USB charger? That means thereís going to be a visible cable running from the cigarette USB charger to the N7? If thatís the case, it doesnít look very OEM. Is there some way to get around this, such as hard wiring the cable supplying the cigarette lighter to the Male USB end of the OTG Y-cable (therefore there would be no need for the cigarette lighter or the USB charger, then I could perhaps hide the USB OTG Y-cable under something).

As I said, Iím a novice, and any detailed cook book-like instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!

Awesome write up. I'm hoping to have a N7 before the year is out and making a headunit out of it for my Cobalt is on my todo list.

I haven't had any issues with the mic and DAC so I'm not sure why others are. I'm using the Behringer UCA202 DAC with an Olympus ME-52W Noise canceling microphone. I use a 1/8" extension cable and a 1/8" to Mono RCA plug converter connected to the Left RCA input on the UCA202. The monitor switch is set to "OFF" so there will be no feedback. With this configuration, any voice app works incredibly well including Google's built in recognition. The App I'm primarily using is called Dragon Mobile Assistant.

The trick is just to mount the mic some place in the car where there isn't too much noise. My first location was on the A-Piller on the driver side near the dash and window as it was out of sight. This didn't work well because of proximity to air vent and also the window when open. Re-routing it to the middle of the trim above the windshield provided better results. Voice control is very helpful as the text and buttons on the Nexus are small and it can sometimes be hard to read in the direct sunlight.

I haven't been able to get the my external mic to work through the left channel input of my UCA202. I'm running Timur's USBROM on a Nexus 7 (2012). Were there any settings that you changed in order to get this to work? It's picking up sound from the internal mic only. Thanks in advance.
