Are you going to use a conventional ssd/drive or use the m.2 port? The Intel M.2 530 Series SSDSCKGW080A401 80GB SSD sells for $120 and operates at 500MB/S read and write speed, and having this mounted to your motherboard means less cables, fastest speed for your boot drive, and a better electrical connection that you dont have to worry vibrating intermittant like a sata cable will (and currently is happening to my boot drive in my carpc)

Good points. I'm thinking of it. Definitely liking the faster boot times idea, smaller footprint. In the short term, I'm going to use the Crucial C300 120GB SSD that I have in there now. I also currently run an external spinner drive through the esata port that I use to capture video from the dash webcam. My thinking is that I can move to an m.2, and then possibly move the external drive into the case. Gotta go buy that vga cable now

Speaking of Hard Drives, any experience with those new Hybrid drives? I was thinking of getting a 1TB one.

    Don't waste your money.
There's not enough performance increase to warrant the extra cost.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

My laptop came with one of those hybrid drives, and although it helped boot times, it was still slow. I put a Samsung 840 128GB SSD on it, and it's really fast to boot now.

I have one and noticed NO change... However check that motherboard and see if it has a hybrid util. I Bought a Maximus VI Formula for my home computer and it has a hybrid drive util that is supposed to manipulate the drive to use the SSD portion more efficiently. I HAVE a hybrid drive in one of my other computers that doesn't have this and it did absolutely nothing to add to performance. I am thinking about swapping my hard drives around and seeing if it makes a difference in this formula. Mine is a 750gig 2.5" drive.

Also note that the M.2 port on these boards only use a single PCIe lane and is limited to 500/500 so don't bother getting one of the newer higher speedier drives to use with it. The standard will handle up to 4 PCIe lanes and most drives will use 2 of those lanes. They will work with 1 lane as is on these boards but will peg out at 500/500 which is still smoking fast. Apparently these ASUS boards are the first motherboards that support the M.2 standard. I have seen up to 500 gig drives online but they are expensive.
