    Lightbulb New mini sized computer

    Hi all!
Iīm new in this forum yet I have been messing around with car and boat computers few years (PIīs,PIIīs,Durons, inverters, Epias,Sproggys,Crystalfontzs,PowerMates,IRMans, EarthLCDs,Xenarcs,DSCustoms etc etc...) . Good to be here!

Yesterday I visited local computer shop and the shopkeeper introduced me a new Gadget Computer: http://www.gadgetcomputer.com/. Man itīs small!!
Here can you see an article about it (unfortunately in Finnish but the pictures says alot): http://www3.soneraplaza.fi/pelit/mur...40128,00.html.
The size is only 133 x 63 x 111 mm (5,25"x2,48"x4,37"). Operating voltage is 5VDC at 1,7A (so itīs quite easy to design an LDO reulator to it). In the box there are a Vortex86 processor (200MHz), 128M RAM (persistent, not expandable), Integrated VGA, place and pins for 2,5" HDD and also std. IDE connector (the power has to be drawn from another source for external IDE device). 3 USB:s and one 10/100 network RJ45. Supported OS:s are at least win95,98,XP and Linux.

Of course this kind of machine cannot be in heavy use (i dont know if it is capable to manage MS Autoroute or MapPoint) but at least MP3īs and thatīs what this is all about here right?

    regards,

    /pete

Yeah that would be real nice if it was more expandable.. and 200mhz just isn't enough in my opinion, unless you're just doing MP3s. Love the size though.. tiny!

well it beats the 133Mhz i was running i'd hate to see XP run on a 200mhz computer...

    i've two questions...
does it suppore suspend to ram/disk?

    and how much?

I donīt know if those supports suspend to ram or any kind of hibernate.

The site comments also that there are coming new model with HW-DVD playback support, TV out, more memory and faster processor in the near future. IMHO if the new model had at least 400MHz processor it would blow the markets...
By the way the price for CC was 249€ (285$) without HDD (kinda pricey for what you get for) and the new model should be about 320€(365$) without the HDD.

That chip is slower then 200MHz It's not a normal x86, so it is classified diff.. Like the C3 is something like 2/3 the speed of a PIII of the same MHz. This is prob 1/2 of a P2 the same speed. Or P1 Small tho.

I can't get XP Pro Corp (Semi Legit, even! ) to install and or run on my P2/400. It gives a Kernel exception that I didn't know was possible Debian 3r1 with the latest packages (From the Unstable branch) runs great, and decently fast. I am using it as a 2nd desktop at home, in fact Linux is so nice.. It will be running on my carputer too!
