    Mac Mini vs. iPad Mini?

I just purchased a 2006 Honda Ridgeline and I'm interested in putting in either a Mac Mini or an Ipad Mini for music/video while on road trips. I was initially planning a Mac Mini build but, aside from having a dedicated DVD bay in the Mac, it seems to me that the iPad Mini with a dash mount would give me more options and save having to purchase a touch screen monitor. Is there an advantage I'm missing that would make the Mac Mini setup superior?

Also, anybody have issues keeping a Mac Mini in a cold car all day while at work? Much easier to take a iPad with me if the weather is too cold or too warm.

As a proud Mac Mini mp3car user (lol), the major superior features are larger capacities (up to 1TB if desired), bigger screen (from the looks of things, you could rig a dash to accommodate up to a 10" on the Ridgeline), and desktop application usage (Office, Photoshop, things that nature). I have yet to experience any issues with my Mini and the cold, and I put my movies on the mac, foregoing the DVD drive. If none of these things matter to you, and the iPad mini for price and form factor is ideal, then go with the iPad mini. $629 can get you a 32GB mini with Retina display and 4G cellular abilities built in. The same money can get you a new Mac mini which is faster, more equipped, and with built-in wifi (which is great if your current phone tethers). But you still have to get the screen though.

I'm sure whatever you do, it'll be awesome. Best of luck!!

I toyed with the idea of an ipad mini but quickly found it too restrictive. There was no good front-end to use in the car and the deal breaker was no built-in GPS. And with all ipads, I HATE NOT HAVING A SIMPLE "BACK" BUTTON!. Love the form-factor and it just plain look good.

So the Mac Mini has GPS and the iPad doesn't? I thought it would have been just the other way around? I would need a constant internet connection for it to work correct?
