Question about epiam and max hard drive capacity

I just got an epia m10000 up and running. In it is a WD 180 gig hard drive. However only 130 gig is being recognized by the bios and os. Is this a limit on the motherboard? Is there any way to get around it like partitioning it into smaller sections. Thanks for the help.

you have hit the 137GB barrier of your controller. you will either need to make seperate partitions, or get a controller that will recognize a larger partition such as those that are included with most drives over 137Gb in size. Seeing as how you are using a mini-itx system, you probably dont want to waste the space with another controller so I say use a second partition.

use Win.NET server to format it to its max capacity. I'm using 160GB with my FV24 MB and this thing came out way before your M100000. I dont think partitioning it works cuz your OS sees only 137. It'll try to partition that 137GB. If you're using intel chipset, you can download the intel ide accelator and you can format to its max cap with win XP.

Well, I used partiotion magic and got 167 gigs out of it. Is this all I can get? I know that there is a drop off from what the advertised capacity is and what the drive capacity actually is but I didn't think it was 13 gigs. Anyone know?

So I guess I am on par. I wonder if this is because of partition magic or just the way it is.

A bios update may exist for larger hdd support. I remember a post on it earlier.

I did update the bios. That most likely helped me get where I did.

180 Gigs in HD Manufactures terms = 180000000000 bytes

    ((180000000000/1024)/1024)/1024 =

approx 167.64 Gigs in Computer terms

    You're out by a k. 180000000 = 180Meg. 180Gigs = 180,000,000,000 bytes / (1024*1024*1024) = 167.6380634307861328125 (167 Gigs).
