I think you can get IR MAN that runs off of a serial port from evation.com

Which do you all think is better... the IRMAN (evation.com), or the MouseREMOTE (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_mk19a.htm)?

MouseREMOTE

Pros:

Cons:

IRMan

Pros:
<ul>[*]Protocol specs[*]Use any remote with it[*]Works with DOS &amp; Linux

Cons:
<ul>[*]Costs slightly more[*]No support[*]No remote included


So basically, it comes down to this: If you're using Windows, the MouseREMOTE should be your first choice, unless you think the remote is too friggin' huge. But if you're using DOS or Linux, you don't have much of a choice but to use the IRMan, which is still a good product.

How do I get my IRman to do anything in Linux? I'm a bit of a newbie here. Can anyone point me toward some software or config files for this?

Sorry, I can't find the link at the moment, but to use the IRman receiver in Linux, you'll need to hunt down a page called LIRC (which stands for Linux Infrared Control). It shouldn't be too difficult to find.
