    Question IR receiver

    wuz up!
I was wondering if anybody is familiar with IR receivers built in to most laptops, because I have and older Toshiba laptop P120, which has one built in, what I want to do is test programs that will work with the IRman before I buy it, and see how winamp will work with it, the question is does the IR receiver built in to my laptop work thesame way as the IRman, I want to use the IRman for my computer in my car running WIN98.. any suggestions greatly appreciated..thankyou

laptop IR doesn't work the same way as IRman if you check out the IRman page they explain this like 5 times in the FAQ. Both use different protocals and speeds. IRman is a 9600 Baud serial device. While laptop IR are usually use a faster interface.

Not sure if you can get software that will allow your laptop's IR to receive remote control signals or not. I would assume you could due to the fact the Palm Pilots have a remote control program that works with any remote.

    Cool

The IR port on any PC can be programmed to do anything you want (I have seen PC universal remote programs, etc.) so I would assume that a plugin exists somewhere to control WinAmp. But as far as IRMan goes, no, it is a different protocal.
