He used computer desktop speakers in a car?

    lol, too ghetto for me.

For $90 you can't do much in car stereo and if thats all you can afford to spend, the $90 altecs may be your only option. I would suggest trying to integrate the car pc with the current car audio setup. Maybe a tape adapter or worst case fm transmitter. Spend the rest on new speakers or hu depending on what is in worse shape.

Or, just save up until you can do it right.

$90 for a 500W 5.1 speaker set is a steal. I've heard alot of good praise about Klipsch speakers and am sure it sounds great. Just a good 500W car amp would set you back about $200 maybe more.

An inverter may have been used to power the speakers.

    whats ... up ... with ... all ... the ...?

no offense but that is ghetto hack. Desktop speakers belong on a desktop not in a car. Keep saving money and do it the correct way.

This whole forum is based on sticking desktop computers in a car.. Don't criticise him for doing it this way, I can see how it would sound very good.. desktop speakers are amazing now, rivaling some of the best home theatres and I can't see any reason not to use them in a car.

Your friend is a complete liar if hes saying he got a 500watt 5.1ch klipsch setup for 90$, though. You should have kept your story with the altec lansing speakers, that was believable

so you sold your friend a 350$ set of speakers for 90$, and then confused them.. The speakers YOU owned! for a set of cheapo altec lansing speakers?

    That sounds credible to me!

"This whole forum is based on sticking desktop computers in a car.."

    Actually, laptops are also common.

Klipsh 5.1 on ebay are about $250-300. Even at that price, it would be hard to setup a 5.1 speaker setup with car audio equipment rated at 500W. I'd still save up for the proper way though.
