does anyone have experience with running a laptop for long periods of time and not having it overheat a few years ago i had a compaq that i ran full time to avoid long boots but the compaqs internal fan ended up going out then the whole system slowed down so bad i eventually got rid of it it was a pentium III 500 i think or was it 7000 i can remember
The reason i ask is I plan on doing it again except running it trough nother screen in the dash and that way i dont have to spend money on an opussorry im the king of run-on sentences I guess im anti-punctuation

Sorry I reworded the question Im already familiar with hibernation but thanks for the reply im mainly interested in knowing how the laptops have done over a long period of timeOriginally Posted by jol
Every fan will fail eventualy. I have never personally had a laptop fan die on me, But I have seen systems that have had fans fail after a couple years. You aren't really going to be running the laptop constantly, I assume (hope) that you will be turning it off when you turn the car off. I would be more worried about the hard drive failing then the CPU fan. Fans are cheap to replace. Either way, you should be able to get at least 2 years out of the fan.

My car PC: The Lost Cause!
Had my Sony Vaio running 24/7 for about 3 months as an ADSL software router, when I found that the BP6 mobo wasn't compatable with the Speedtouch USB modem that we were forced to use as part of the contract with BT. Ran fine, had no troubles. Still use it today, even though it is a bit slow at times.
4x4 in a turbo stylee.
mine went out prob in under a year if i repartitioned and everything i tended to run faster for a few days maybe a week maybe ill just run an inverter then buy an opus later on I can prob build a pc with the extra crap I have on my computer right now if I get rid of the 200 plus divx on my hd theres so much i want to do and I have so little patience
since were on the fan topic have you ever tried to replace a fan on the motherboard or just disconnect it I have one that makes a horrible noise I think is on the bios its not the proscessor
Dont unhook any fans, if theyre making a nasty grinding noise then replace them.
And hard drives will usually outlive fans, if it doesnt, its time to reconsider your brand preference or make sure the fan is actually cooling the hard drive.
Oh and I *REALLY* hope english is your 9th language or something...
