Post Hot glue in PCI slots

I read about people hot gluing card, memory, and other things that go in slots. I was wondering if this is damaging? That seems to be a good idea for how my install is done. My PCI bus is on an angle and I had a test card bump loose while driving in early development stages. I was thinking of going the hot glue method. The only thing I'm worried about is if some day I install a card that conflicts and I'd have to move the cards around. Will the glue scrap off ok? I should also mention I read in an issue MaximumPC someone used super glue and it got stuck in the slots where the pins connect, and he was screwed. I know hot glue is more like melted plastic, so I hope it would work ok?

Hot glue the two corners AFTER the card/memory/etc. is in place and there won't be a problem.. You don't need to cover the whole length, just the sides. As hot glue is not conductive, and the heat against the board isn't a huge issue (not like you're holding a flame to it) it should work fine. I would be careful though with memory and try and keep the glue just on the board.

I tried hot glue, but it melted in my trunk. So, I used silicone, it not affected by the heat (it wont melt) and its easy to peal off.

Yeah.. Hot glue works well. One of the first mail order PC's i worked on had all the cards and wires hot glued in. Worked as advertised.

I think they probably had problems with UPS knocking stuff loose.

    Cool

Yes. Hot glue will work fine. Just glue the rear corner of the cards, and both corners of the memory. Do not glue into the slot. I have hot glued all the systems I built after I had some problems with cards shaking loose, and have not had any problems reoccur. For the minimal effort required, it could save you a lot of hassle in the future.

He's probably using a setup similar to mine... No case to screw to... Just the mobo mounted on a platform or whatever...

PS - Even with a good case, you can still have "fitting" problems like I had on my stationary home PC!
