mounting PC in trunk

my buddy decided he wants to do a car mp3 player. he wanted to know what the best way to mount it was. he wanted to suspend it with a million bungee cords, but i didnt think that would work too well. so i was wondering what the general consensus of opinion was around here.

this is what I had for a while, now I use a custom made acrylic case under my passanger seat

Anyway, the unit was like 1 kilograms (1.5 lbs or so) so I just used some light velcro to hold it in place, worked like a charm. If your crazy enough buy some thin mdf and made a side panel in your trunk. I really didnt care about anything hitting the comp so thats why mine looked like that.

so i dont really have to make any special padding or shock absorbing considerations to the unit? the car is a dodge stratus, and has a fairly smooth ride.

Many members have there players hard mounted (or not mounted) and have little if any problems with hardware failure. Pc hardware is much more durable than you think it is.

nope I never had a problem with my carputer being in the trunk. In fact the trunk is the coolest part of the car so its actually the ideal location.

My current setup (until I can afford a new casetronic epia system) is hung from the trunklid and is held in place by little brackets that allow the whole thing to slide in and out,, what I actually used was the brackets that come with some hard drive/floppy adapters (the ones that let you use a 3.5" drive in a 5 1/4 drive slot) it works pretty good,, The only problem I ever have appears to be heat related, sometimes in the heat of the Florida day, the PC will not boot, it will run past the bios setup and then freeze when windows goes to load,, (but it only does it on very hot days)

sweet guys, thanks. the project is coming together nicely, one we get everything set up then we'll look into mounting it into a CD changer (or maybe a VCR...). we plan to use ViaVoice and a mic to control the unit (seems more 1337, and saves to cost of a display). has anyone in here had experience with voice control, and if so, any recomendations or tips?

I can testify to comp hardware being REALLY GOD DAMN durable.....my old SCSI Apple drives still work lol, and they are from way back in 93-95 lol, one had its head skipping, so I used the screw drive-thwacky method, works perfectly, then theres my 30gb maxtor.....dropped it 5-6ft once on accident.....still werks! But now its collecting dust, along with other parts I shall use for a future MP3 puter project for me cavy
