So, do VIA motherboards support expansion such as sound cards?

I am debating getting a VIA motherboard (M1000N) or a conventional ATX size board. The only drawback I see with the VIA is that you can not use a good sound card, your stuck with on board audio.

It seems that if you are going through the expense of a carputer, you minght as well use a good sound card, no?

OK I feel dumb for posting without researching first...It seems that mobo has 1 PCI slot from the looks of it.

If you use one of those two slot pci risers you can have two pci slots.

Oh you can? Thats cool..I assume there is no conflict issues when you do that? The processor does not care that there are 2 devices on one slot?

You might want to consider a USB sound device.

I wonder if the ISB sound devics are as high quality (as far as audio quality) as a similar PCI device?

Quality USB sound devices ones can be better then an internal sound card because they are separated from the electrically noisily inside of a computer case. USB sound devices tend to be CPU intensive, but that won’t matter with faster systems.

I am not personally impressed with the M10000 sound...maybe it is the shielding, don't know.

Poke around www.mini-itx.com for some more info.

I am using a video card in the pci slot, so if I was to impove the sound I would go usb.

I haven't heard good things about the two slot risers.
