When you get right down to it, if someone really wants to steal your car, they probably will. Locks and security systems really only keep the honest people honest and prompt the theif to look at other cars before yours. That is unless he wants your car or what's in it. My room mate's car was in the bad part of town and despite locked doors and a car alarm they still got in and stole his radio.

So really when it gets down to it, a key lock or a key pad really doesn't make a difference. As long as you have a security system with a flashy light, that's probably the best you're gonna get.

What about a biometric reader... USB fingerprint or something... that trips a relay on your remote start?

Maybe my would-be theif will be so impressed he'll leave me alone.

I Have been seriously considering this for some time I've just developed a push putton start system to start the engine upon a igntion signal which is normally gained by turnin the key 2 places, ofcourse it can replaced with a switch but seriously lowers the security factor, so far several ideas i have had, are keypad to enable ignition, or proximity sensor in the form of a card or wand/token (keychain size prehaps) that wave over a particular part of the dahsboard where the sensor is loacted discreetly to enable the igniton then hit the strart button button which i sold here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ADME:B:LC:UK:1
other methods i have considered are biometric readers based upon pc authentication, only issue is pc must be running for this to work, have seen some very cool biometric readers such as this one http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/6768/ an ideal solution as it is detachable could even mount a usb socket in the vehicles door for entry
or there this one http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/698d/ again would need to be pc based
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/6518/ pretty much same as usb one,. just pcmcia type
or even this one http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/69c7/ only probelm is not as removable
there also was a retina scanner but i cant find that one

as with all these a relay could be used to initiate entry via the pcs comm port or parralle port with ease as it already planned on out software AIMEE

    Stall it??
rewave wand etc, or a button on the touchscreen to open the relay that holds the ignitoin line high
