    Carputer computer models

I've uploaded my 3-D model of a VIA Epia M10000 mobo for your viewing and computing pleasure. It's in *.des format.

    http://sweb.uky.edu/~kdsebe0/VIA_M10000_schematics.rar

You can play around with it using Pro/E DESKTOP, free for the cost of a 32MB download from www.ptc.com. Feel free to complete the model, as I'm missing a couple (currently) insignificant things like the LVDS connector.

I only ask that you keep all dimensions in mm!!! In order to avoid flames, let's just say that the American system is highly incompatible with everyone else's, and since the Mini-ITXs are designed around the metric system (17cmx17cm EXACT) you'll be even more accurate since practically every dimension falls quite nicely on either a whole mm or a half.

How about it? What have you got out there in the way of computer models? If someone out there had some real engineering packages they could run a heat transfer test and let us know how things turn out.

    Post your models!

I'm all for using the Metric system.. I'm a pure-blooded American, but I hate our system.. It confuses the hell out of me, on our Biology test where we had to reconize diffrent std's of measurement, I got 100% on the Meteric and ~45% on the American..

I start posting models this weekend. I do model stuff in mm as I measure it. If people dont have a solid modeling package and want to play around with somthing they can try rhino3D.

Here's one of my Epia M10000. These models are nice because they let you decide if something will work before making it instead of screaming, "DOH!" moments after.

That and keeping people like ptc and myself from reinventing the wheel.

On a side note, don't tell me that we're the only two to have ever made a mobo model. This isn't limited to EPIA models. It isn't even limited to motherboards. I'd love to see a bank of all these little chips, fans, sinks, widgets, wadgets, gidgets, and gadgets.

I never made one because it seemed like too much effort. Externally it's just a flat piece of metal, whereas internally there's a million contoured holes that would have been a pain in the butt to measure by hand.

If you like, I'll get the exterior measurements for the plate this weekend. As for the location of the holes, you should be able to get them from my model.
