Hehe, I've got a 38pin LCD and a useless ISA video card...I'm gonna start chopping them apart and prove JupiterX right.

The best of luck to you. Please let us know when it flickers to life.
Update on my project..
Welp, I found out from the creator of my TFT display that the controller card that I can use in my desktop pc to run it will cost me indeed a pricey $300+. I will most likely end up purchasing a 6" display and wiring that up....
earth computer tech sells the controller cards for $150 to $280 depending on the LCD screen support needed.
Earth also has the EarthVision/ADC
analog to digital controller on the same page
that takes analog vga signal from your normal vga card and converts it to digital for 640x480 LCD's

Earth computer tech's super LCD kit homepage
http://www.flat-panel.com/skhome.htm
specifically these LCD kits:
http://www.flat-panel.com/SK1003.HTM
$350 9.4" 256 passive matrix color 640x480 VGA LCD with cable and controller card kit.
http://www.flat-panel.com/SK1004.HTM
$180 7.4" passive matrix monochrome 640x480 VGA LCD with controller card and cable
$450 will get you their 8.4" color active matrix
http://www.flat-panel.com/SK3001.HTM
is a pretty bright 4" color active matrix
that takes NTSC video input instead $175
includes the necessary board for RCA video input and for powering the LCD.
And at another place for $300 you can get a color passive matrix LCD screen like 10" viewable AND the necessary cables and controller card too.
They also have a $90 9.6" diagonal viewable 16 gray-scale monochrome 640x480 VGA LCD with cables and ISA controller card. I'm using that right now and it works great in the car =)

BUT THE STUPID WEB PAGE IS DOWN RIGHT NOW!
grrrrrrr.....
anyways goodluck! =)

price update,
i was finally able to get to Alltech Electronics homepage
i was mistaken =)
$200 for the 640x480 passive matrix color LCD with ISA controller and cables
$320 for the 10.4" active matrix 262,144 color LCD with ISA controller and cables
A lot nicer eh? =)

Thanks for the info...Who knows, I may save up some cash and later upgrade my system with that TFT display. For right now, I may use a cheaper approach and only us a lcd for mp3 info...its up in the air right now.
Sounds like I'm in the same boat as yourself. What I'm doing (While saving Money for the LCD) is remotely controlling the Computer using either my Plam Pilot or my HPC. This works OK but is only a short term way to get the computer usable.
I control mine right now by the X10 remote. It uses RF so there is no line of sight to worry about. I can stand 30-40 feet from my car and still change songs. It has a plugin for winamp called armapod. Its not bad at all.
Does the X10 receiver plug into your serial port? I'm interested in this as it would be nice to not have to drag a wire to have the IR receiver in the front of my car

Yes, it plugs into the serial port and has a pass through too. You can find more info on it at http://www.x10.com/products/x10_mk19a.htm
its actually called the mouse remote, but at
http://www.v.nu/core/ampapod/
is info on the plugin i use. Good luck with your project..all I am waiting on is my orbital lcd and I'm almost done with mine...for now that is =)
