if it is similar to a computer ribbon cant yu just splice the same gauge of wire in between?
I need 2 wires like the ones pictured below
1) The fat wire is the flat ribbon type with 16 leads
2) The skinny wire is same type, but only has 6 leads
I've relocated my cd player into my glove box because the 2nd din slot on my dash isn't deep enough however I'd like to extend the wires for the face to the front of the dash so I can still have the face visible but the brains hidden. I need cables of the same type about 3-4' long. anyone know where I could find these?
sorry for the poor image quality. I had to send the digi off to be repaired so I had to use my webcam![]()

they are not ribbon cables like ide cables... they are flat ribbon cable with flat wire contacts.Originally Posted by guitar333

that is where i bought the 20 pin version of those cables. mind you, they have an order minimum, so, if you have less than $25 ordered you get charged a fee.
you will need to know the pin spacing on those cables, but you should be able to find what you need on digi-key. although 3-4 feet is a bit long. they are low vontage and the signals will probably degrade over 3-4 feet. cant hurt to try though!!!

Flat flex cable comes in .3, .5mm spacing and 1mm spacing. The longest cables you can get from Digi-Key are 18" in 1mm or 8" in .5mm. If you happen to have a catalog (or can look at a PDF on their site), it's starts on page 46.
Extending these cables out to extreme 18" lengths may mess with the electronics some, so take car to do a lot of testings. Your cables are probably .5mm spacing, though, so I hope that you don't want to extend them too far since you can't get long cables :-(
