Omg, now I relize I might now exactly understand the whole picture behind your post but, if someone is going to spend this much time and money on a project like this it seems extremly simple minded to just run a freaking winamp in a window as your whole interface, especially in a mobile enviroment such as a car, now unless the driver won't be controling the computer at all none of this matters.

you'd be surprised at how usable winamp is fullscreen with touch

Here's a pic of Arby's fullscreen winamp skin modified for widescreen Xenarcs running at 1000x600:

It looks even better in real life. It very easy to use and is a perfect gui for driving use. I prefer it over Media Engine.

Check out the rest of inor's car:

I use the same skin in my car. I increased the font size and icons on my desktop. I use this plump version of explorer to launch my favorite apps, copilot 2k3 for gps, windows media player for movies, and winamp 3 for music. Thats really about all I can use while driving. The passenger can launch Internet Explorer, GTA Vice city, etc from the start menu.

Winamp3 loads at boot playing music at startup. I minimize to launch copilo2k3 when neccessary. It works well and eliminates the need for Median Engine or similar applications. I've thought about creating my own skin, whether with litestep, object desktop, or even windowblinds to make it even easier to use with touchscreen. But the oversized explorer seems to work fine for all my needs.

Ok, well I stand corrected, although I still think if I were going to be using a touch screen I would still like to have a frontend to make things even easyer. (just a personal prefrence I guess)

HD's dont skip. If they were to skip, they will have a head crash and then your entire software setup will be infinitly damaged. But that to happen, the HD would have to be drop to the ground and hammered upon. unless of course you get a crappy HD.

in other words you will be fine.
