    maxtor shockblock?

ok, so far people suggest using the quantum fireball hard drives... maxtor has a 27 GB with this shockblock stuff for about 200 ... any tried this in a car? anyone know if its any good? or is the quantum still the way to go?

i used a maxtor 5.7 gig without the shockblock feature. ive been running full surface scans and havent found any bad sectors yet. and all i used for shock mounting were rubber grommets.

I've used several regular 3.5" IDE hard drives with no problems.
First was a 1G Western Digital Caviar, then a maxtor 2.?G then used my trusty laptop.
I think the trick is to not transmit hard shocks to any hard drive.
Just FYI, I drive an Eclipse GSX. Small hard suspension car. Also, I drive hard! My tires
are all screwed up from not slowing down
for RR tracks and speed bumps.
I never bolted a player into the car though,
I always set it in the tiny little trunk with soft stuff around it, either a blanket
or foam, or such. (let air flow though!)
If you hard mount your player to the car I bet you'll transfer much more shock to your player and drive.

I did kill a couple on the bench, dropping only an inch or two while running.
They were small IDE's that I didn't care about and I wanted to see what it would take.
It's fairly easy to kill them if you try, but if you take reasonable precautions any drive should be ok.
