Using autochanger lead as aux input

Hi - I have a car with a factory fitted cd autochanger in it. I saw another guy with the same car and stereo a while ago and he had managed to chop in to his autochanger lead so that it was connected either to his autochanger or his hard disc based mp3 player depending on which way the relay he had installed was pointing. Do any of you folks know how to do this? I have lost touch with the guy who did it so can not copy his work

I would certainly rather do this then resorting to an FM modulater/transmitter thingy.

    Cheers,
    P.

I did more research and found the line in that goes from the cd changer in to my head unit. If I stick a relay between the head unit and changer, on the line in, I should be able to create a path to my mp3 player right? I.e. relay is normally connecting the head unit to the cd changer. When I energise the relay the head unit line in is connected to my mp3 player instead.

    Should work right?

well it would work but you would have to use a relay with more than two leads plus extra leads to turn off the unused lines from the changer good luck

Why do I need to turn off the extra lines from the changer? They are probably NEEDED to set the head unit up to actually receive a signal on the line in wires right? It's just the line in wires wont be coming from the changer but from my computer instead.

The more I think about it the more I think that you NEED the other wires to be connected to make the head unit realise there is music coming in to it from that direction...

Yeah - im pretty sure you are right about the CD. I think the head unit will tell the autochanger to spin up and play a cd. However the music coming back to the head unit will be from the MP3 player. I don't think its too bad that the cd is playing is it? I mean if i didnt have the mp3 player I would be playing a CD anyway...
