I have the Pioneer DVD116 and I like it alot.
It works well with all types of CD's and DVD's and I have had zero problems with it.
I dont have anything to compare it to but 16X DVD rocks for me!

    Question

Ok, so the debate continues... I've had 2 ppl here from work suggest the Panasonic drive, as:
    They make their own drives
    They are made in Japan

    Any other opinions? Thanks

You can't get a Pioneer DVD106S can you? Nothing cooler than slot-load. I've been happy with the performance of my Pioneer drive, so I would have to recommend that or the 116.

i am having troubles with my pioneer slot loading dvd rom, its the ata66 model and it seems to have a hard time reading 700 meg divx movies, i dunno if it cant reach the end of the 700 meg cd or what, but on some of most of 700 meg divx cds it has troubl and i have to eject and load agin until it reads it probably.

it seems to have reading problems u can here it like skipping sort of.

i havent overburned at all, just weird.

well, usually I'm pretty good at taking advice, but this time I went against the grain... I haven't tested the Panasonic yet, but I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for all your input... I just hope it doesn't end up giving you guys the right to say "I told you so"

Was the Panasonic cheaper? My Pioneer DVD116 only $63.

I'm just interested because my friend is going to buy one soon.....

They were the same price, but now I have a wee little problem. Windows ME recognizes the drive and correctly IDs the model number, but it hasn't been able to read any of my CDs. I've only tried burned CDs so far, so that may be the problem...???
