Get a keypad and then get this plug-in so that you can control Winamp from the keypad.
LOL Meatballman..
For my setup I'm using a wireless 900MHZ keyboard, and also for the main every day controls I'll be using a standard 4 button, 2 axis game pad. Though the game pad is a custom thing that I'm doing, and writing a program for. Never know, it may one day be public, but I'm still unsure..

Go to Arby's site and see if like his idea for custom buttons using an old keyboard.
I'm using a slightly different approach (there's a right way, a wrong way, and my way) I've got a series of buttons connected up to the serial ports connected to the com control plugin.
web page
There is a version for 4 buttons in English or 8 buttons in Dutch. But I recon if I can understand it anyone can.
Also there is a plugin out there, not sure where, that controls winamp via RS232 signals, and there is PIC software to interface with RS232.
I currently working with this to build a custom controller which will conect up to the serial port.
My mates got a crude version running, I'll let you know how I get on if you want.

And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
First, search.
Second, I'm just using a standard numeric keypad. The kind you get for laptops with a PS/2 or serial connection. I've written a custom application to respond to the keypad input, but you can just use the keypad plugin for Winamp.

"If one more body-kitted, cut-spring-lowered, farty-exhausted Civic revs on me at an intersection, I swear I'm going to get out of my car and cram their ridiculous double-decker aluminium wing firmly up their rump."
take a old keyboard and get the controller,
see what key's you need to control winamp and conect some switch's to the controler.
This way you can control winamp or just get a numeric keypad with ps/2 like Aaron say's and maybe you can take a look at this site.
Now you can configure the key's to control winamp.
