has anyone fitted a carputer into a single din sized dash?

Do you reckon they will fit into the slot perfectly.

yeah thats what I'm going to do as well. I've ordered a lilliput screen + 12+ DC regular. Already got a 2.5" HD and slimline DVD-rom. Next on the shopping list is the case/motherboard/ plus some memory.

I got a Casetronic Travla C134. It fits in the dash BUT you have to check the depth of the slot. The C134 is 10 inches whereas DIN slots are about 7inches so you have a 3 inch stick-out. I could overcome this by cutting the plastic back of the slot but this isnt a very clean way. Overheating might be a problem though since the 2 fans are facing upwards, and when inserted into the slot, are covered. Sure there are some holes on the back of the case but I dont think that they are enough.

Memory for this case MUST be low profile, but be aware that most memory dimms advertised as "low-profile" arent really suitabl for the C134/136. It must be 0.8inches.

hum the over heat is the really problem. I wonder how I'm going to get round that??

These cases advertised as "DIN Sized" really mean they have the same cross section as a DIN slot. In reality, they are nearly twice as deep as the spec allows when you screw your cables into the back of them. It's very misleading. There would be no way to put a Mini-ITX motherboard into a DIN sized unit.

Now if your dash is very very deep, you could still do it, but it'd still be much easier just to stash the box under a seat or in the glove box or something. Air flow will also be a problem inside there, so without intake/exhaust fans to move air into/out of the area behind your dash, you'll have problems.. probably
