what do you mean, why does it "suck"?
    resolution, pixel burnouts, etc?
im trying to find out all the info i can, because it doesnt seem to be a bad "starter" project for a beginner.
in this pic it looks pretty good resolution to me...

brightness is a big issue. If i remember correctly any little bit of sunlight and you won't be able to see anything on the screen

/me smacks civicduties "Don't link images, it wastes peoples bandwidth!"

I think that vB3 needs to make something to copy the image into the vB's DB.. Its really really easy, I did it with my news program.. I wish they would add that so it didn't do that!

I have one of these things, and this is a bad idea for a few reasons:
    1. the processor is a 200? mhz low power ship, its like a winchip or something...its like having a p120, mp3 decoding would be sketchy by far.

    2. the audio out is non existant. If you want t oput RCA jacks on, you have to do some intricate sodering to the motherboard, which i tried and ended up frying the audio controller.

    3. like someone else said, the screen on them sucks. Not a very high resolution, i dont think it can display a lot of colors, i could be wrong on that issue though. It is not active matrix, so any fast moving video blurs heavly. Finally, the viewing angle. Looking at the top of the screen, the bottom's colors are out of whack. unless you are dead center on the screen, you are going to have some serious color changes. its really bad

    I-Opener

I have used an I-Opener in my 94' Ford Explorer for about 2 years... Windows 98 stripped down on it, Delorme Streetatlas, original small KB w/ thumb mouse controller, "Badflash" BIOS upgrade and new socket, HDD ( I believe it is a 6.4gig HDD), custom mini IDE cable, original modified heat sink, max232 serial inverter....
I had a Garmin Streetpilot GPS w/ DGPS option connected to it (with external amplified antennas, of course) and I can honestly say that setup is bulletproof!!

Boot time (including POST) to GPS maps is about 25sec.

As with the sun glare / readability of the display... It was basically fine almost all of the time... No different than using the DScustoms 7" display. As with the display not being active matrix... since all I did with it was use it as a moving GPS map.., that's not a problem... but I would NOT recommend trying to do video on it and also the processor couldn't support video anyway.
I would also not suggest it as a MP3 playback machine, as I had trouble when I tried doing that with it.
It seemed fine in all in-car temperature ranges; I experienced no problems with that. Even leaving it running while the car was parked in a hot parking lot for 8 hours.

BTW.. the screen resolution was fine for the maps. Even reading 8pt text!!

I used Delorme Streetatlas for GPS guidance / knowing where I was lost and it was great helping me find my way. I know it’s not the “best” navigation program out there, but it served my purposed great!

2 months ago I purchased a new 02' vehicle and am building a new system for GPS and mp3/music.

Because of that, I am selling my customized ("hacked") I-Opener. In fact I was going to place it on eBay this evening, but I will make it available to the MP3Car community first.
I am also including a Netgear USB to 10MB/s Ethernet adapter with it. (I used it for updates and such, but would not suggest leaving it connected for “normal” use as it increases boot time.

This is a complete working system minus the GPS (you can use any NEMA compliant serial GPS)

    Any offers?

I’ll be willing to part with it for $175 including shipping to the East side of the US (another $5 for the West side).

Everything mentioned is included, minus the inverter and GPS hardware.

I will post pictures later tonight.
