U guys know of any high quality sound cards that do all the multi media and have all the adjustments via software-and that also have a digital toslink onboard on the card? I'm planning on going digital from the sound card to the deck (an alpine PXA-H700) and I just have no room for any add-on external deck unit that comes with most high end cards that have digital out on them.
I'm looking at sound blasters latest offerings on tomshardware.com:
http://www6.tomshardware.com/video/2...audigy-01.html
He says
"The card has the two standard input circuits (line and mike) and a digital output on a 3.5*mm jack, that can be used with Creative sound systems that have digital input. It can also be used with any other standard digital equipment through an adaptor cable."
I wonder if that digital 3.5mm jack can be converted to toslink to then go to the back of the alpine.
Suggestions?

My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.
I'm a lesbian too.
I am for hire!
isn't the whole point of the toslink to have lossless media until the alpine unit converts the signal to analog? it seems that you are going to add more connections (see also: more noise) I am wondering if one of these would fit your bill.

Unfortunately they are only stereo cards, not 5.1. bummer.
ESI Juli@ is an option.
From their site:
No idea if that means it does DTS though, I presume it's a given if it does DD 5.1?Built in digital optical output - 5.1 Dolby digital support
- Digital coaxial I/O (with support for up to 192kHz) - 5.1 Dolby digital support
DTS and DD5.1 are different products. If there is DTS, there's a good chance the lower DD5.1 is also available, but DD5.1 does not usually imply DTS.Originally Posted by Durzel
As for converting digital 3.5mm to rca to optical, no noise is introducted because it remains digital. There should be no loss of quality in converting digital on the rca to digital over optical since it's just the medium that's changed.

Gen 1: Pentium 3 1GHz - ATX - 2005
Gen 2: Pentium M 1.6GHz - ITX - 2006
Gen 3: Pentium M 2.0GHz - 5.25" SBC - 2007
Gen 4: (coming soon: Core2 Duo - 3.5" SBC - 2009)

If I'm not mistaken, those 3.5mm jacks that are dual-purpose are analog/optical outs, using the 3.5mm TOSlink adapter. So you wouldn't need to convert to RCA then to optical, because the adapter converts the port straight to a standard-size TOSlink port.
