    Network File Transfer

Ok here's the thing. My carputer is controlled by keypad with a a 20x4 character display unit. What I want to do is transfer music through the network card from my desktop to the carputer without having to remove the Hard drive. Problem is, when the tcp/ip is set up windows reuests a username and password when the pc starts up... how can I make it log on automatically? (Remember I only have a character LCD screen that starts up in winamp and I can't actually see what going on in windows)

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated

    Dave

Whats your Operating System? on the machine with the character only display? If it is NT, 2000 or XP, i can give you a registry key to create an auto admin login.

OS would help, BUT if it is Win XP just run "control userpasswords2" without quotes and the rest is self explanitory...

What I do is run VNC as a service on the carputer. Then you just need to start it up and you can connect to it from your other PC and do the login from there.

Oh yeah, I guess it would, at the moment its windows 98 second edition, but I could run XP, just thought win98 would be more user friendly...... so far its turning out to be a pain in the butt...

what i did was to disable the NIC in device manager until i actually needed to take the pc inside and network stuff. Not only will this fix your problem, but it will make your PC boot much faster because it doesnt have to load the networking stuff. All you have to do is disable the NIC in device manager and when you want to network, take the mp3car inside and hookup to a monitor, then enable the NIC, restart, and there ya go.

Keep the NIC enabled, but change the primary logon, one of them will not prompt you for a password

I can't remember which one it is though...experiment

tweakui allows you to set up an auto login...and a bunch of stuff.

BTW networking doesn't seem to slow my system down.
