    m-audio sound card issues...

I am using an M-audio revolution 7.1 sound card.
    2 problems:

    1) The lower part of the user interface window is cut off. It looks fine on my 17" monitor, but the 7" car lcd cuts it off. You can not re-size the window. I can't acces some functions because of this. I tried making my desktop smaller, but my TM-710VGT goes blank when I use anything other than the lowest res (640x480).

    2) Can the rear & subwoofer channels be used while NOT in surround mode? The only way I could get the sub and rear channels working is to turn on surround mode, which I do not want. I just want all the channels on but no surround processing.

I fixed problem #1...The display font size was set to LARGE, so I set it to normal (96dpi) and the m-audio window fits fine now. I must have set it to large at some point...duhhh.

I still need to hear from a fellow m-audio sound card owner...

afaik on all sound cards (based on what i've seen on sound blaster live and audigy series, turtle beach cards, and nforce audio) you have to activate some sort of surround processing to make rear, center and subwoofer channels unless your audio stream contains more than just a stereo signal (eg. PowerDVD XP).

Your sound card will not be able to play audio out from the rear and sub channels because there's no signal given to it from most audio sources.

The surround processing has to generate those extra channels from a stereo signal. The easiest thing to do is to switch on surround processing, then set your sound card to just reproduce the front audio channels to the rears, and create a LFE channel for the subwoofer. Switch off all extra processing (echo, reverb, etc) as it'll probably be annoying... those effects're modelled for home theatre and not cars.
