I'm shopping for one, so I'm curious, which enclosure are you using?
Cable connections good?
i've got a dvd drive hooked up through a firewire external enclosure drive. it ran flawlessly for a few months, but now after running for a few minutes, the drive will stop working. it seems like it uninstalls itself. then i have to restart cuz it jacks up windows explorer.exe. i'm powering the enclosure from my 150 opus. anyone else have a setup similar to this? i've a usb copilot gps receiver, a usb wireless keyboard, and a usb wireless network adapter, running windows xp 2.4 ghz p4, 512mb ram. should i invest in a new enclosure drive or is there something else wrong like not getting enough power? any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

i don't remember the brand. i got it online. whether you go firewire or usb2, i'd get one with a power adapter. if it uses straight ac current you'll probably have to use a power inverter to power it. if it uses a power adapter then chances are you can run it off of your computer's power supply. all my connections are tight. i may have to rip my car apart again and have a look at the enclosure.

Have you guys looked at this DVD/CD-R drive? It's bus powered and USB 2.0. I should have mine tomorrow.
Can be bought off Tigerdirect.com for a little less but I can't stand them.
would it still help to put a fan on it in a small enclosed area? having a dvd drive in my center console was one of the best things about my setup, so i'm gonna have to buy another enclosure. maybe the one i fried was a cheap one? hopefully that was the case. this time i'm buying one with a lifetime guarantee.

I am using the $39.99 unit for my DVD. Nice product, works great, has fan.
