Mounting ideas for slimline dvd player in dash

Anyone have any good ideas on how to mount a slimline dvd drive in a custom dash face? I'm working with a din and a half space, planning on getting the touch screen motorized single din unit, then have the slimline dvd drive right below it. Din mounts are easy to come by, but what about slimline? In addition, since the computer will be in the back of the car, i assume i'd have to go to ide->firewire convertor right behind the slimline dvd drive, then figure out a way to feed it power, since I don't think you can run IDE very far (am I wrong?). I guess I could run power all the way from the computer to the dash so that when the computer comes on via its own means then the dvd drive would to, that would be just perfect!

Any tips?

Did some reading. IDE is clearly not the way to go if mounting a cdrom at a distance. I think my best bet would be to go with an IDE to FIREWIRE convertor then running a firewire cable between the computer and the drive. I'd still probably run a power cable from the computer to the cdrom drive though...

I have put mine in the space where the cup holder was. The cup holder came out of the "casing", and the slimline CD drive slipped right into the gap

I am running a USB cable, as well as 4 power cables (+12v,0v,0v,+5v) to the front of the car, which powers the USB2 hub and the USB2 to IDE adapter, and the cd drive

Hows that morex dc to dc converter treating you? Does it have any nifty features or is it just on and off? I ordered one from mini-itx.com but I haven't found too much info about it..

I used a SlimDVD/Floppy mounting kit to mount one in the top Din of my dash.

ose-ml320, where did you get your slim slot dvd? The only ones I can find are the apple ones with the flipped power plug thing.

For what it is...which is a basic DC-DC supply with no frills...it works pretty well

Not enough power to spin up the 7200rpm desktop drive with the engine off, but other than that, it's OK. No shutdown/startup controller, no regulator on it, but it works well for now.

That mounting kit is rather big.. does anyone know of a kit JUST for a slim drive? I have been searching on google and stuff for one but no luck yet...
