stay away from this. I bought one about two months ago and all it did was send bad data from the DVD to the computer. Junk. I ended up with this and it works much better. http://www.caloptic.com/eus-b.html

Edit: It appears that on the fist post the image and link are two different items. I have the product that is on the link not the photo

I currently have the USB version of the link on the first post. It works flawlessly and if you are in a tight squeez (like I was) with space it works out perfectly. There are actually two seperate circuit boards connected by a short IDE cable. This allowed me to make an U shape bend save space on the bottom. I mounted mine vertically and the bottom was really close to the ground and I only had about an inch of space (even after i cut out some carpet) So this one worked perfectly.

I will explain what you see on the image you posted in the actual thread.

On the far left that is an Audio Out port. Much like conventional IDE cd-drives this one has an audio out. Its pretty useless in my opinion.

Next comes power, not gonna explain this

The white squarish one is a USB-B port. This is for connecting the drive to the computer via USB.

On the right are 2 firewire ports, they are both identical. One is used to goto the computer and the other is used to link to another firewire device in a daisy chain.

One thing about firewire. There is a widely known, atleast within the people I know, but not highly documented problem with firewire. It will cause "Write Delay Failrues" that can cause a loss or corruption of data. If you encounter this youd be wise to never use a firewire device on your computer, go USB instead. That being said there is no way to determine if it will work or not other than user testimony. I know for a fact that the onboard IEEE1394(Firewire) on the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe gives this exact error. On the flip side even with that same board when I use the firewire on my Audigy it works perfectly.

    Hope this helps.

no. most firewire devices have 2 ports not b/c you can use both to conect to your computer. but to chain 3 or 4 devises off one port
