infinitek...i bought a 13.6" screen off ebay a couple of months ago. i finally got around to hooking it up today. it is a brand new screen but it looks like a laptop screen. it has a board connected to it with a vga connector. it works fine but my other screen is clearer. i guess my touchscreen is a tft or something like that. i bought this one brand new for about $300. the BIG difference is the viewing angle. with this one you pretty much have to be in front of it to see it good. with the touchscreen you have a wider viewing angle. i am puting the touchscreen in front anyway. the bigger one i was going to use at competetions in the rear for display purposes only. i would not use the laptop screen at all.
but, i have had it on all day and it looks a litle better now than when i first turned it on earlier. i would wait to get the better screen and spend what you need to get it.

No, your right, the EM-586 board has an onboard controller for the LCD. I have 2 LCD's one is going to hook up to another pc with a VGA out, the other is for the em-586 board.

I have not had the time to find the right cable to go from lcd to em-586 board- But I plan to work on that today.

Infinatek - Let me see what kind of info I can dig up - Ill keep you posted.

    Hey gizmomkr-

I am just wondering if you have found any info pertaining to these TFTs running at 12bit color. It would rock if they could. I would spend up to 300 for a good controler card if that was the case. But to tell you the truth if you look hard enough on auction sites you can find really nice brand new TFT screens for like 100 or 200 bucks. Plus the newer TFTs can be controlled by onboard higher quality Controlers or a really nice Gforce with DVI output which would rock because it could deffinately drive Divx or any games... at any rate i think i may have talked myself into selling these 2 Sharp 8.4" TFTs that i have. Know anyone who wants both of them for $50.... cool check ya later man

according to the data sheet there is only 4bits for each color.
(12bits total) so don't think there is anyway to go above 4096 colors. that sucks. will DVDs look any good on 4096 colors?

Check your chaphics cards....not all are the same, but my experience is : composit out = 256 color.

even if the vga interface runs at 16million colors, the tv out will only do 256.

DvD Express ( a popular software decoder) runs its decode at 256 color ) they only way ( I know) to get a hi-res out is a QUALITY decoder card w/ hi - RES out ( s-video)
